Context
Dina Rudick at Anthem Multimedia called with a story already in motion.
Twelve hour long interviews. Ten hours of vérité footage.
A twenty-minute rough cut that needed to become six.
This wasn’t a recap film. It was the emotional centerpiece of Vertex’s national campaign on cystic fibrosis.
The piece had to carry weight.
It mattered.
Challenge
The story was there. Somewhere, they were certain.
But,
too many voices blurred together.
Too much data drowned out the humanity.
Anthem needed someone who could find the pulse and shape it into something that breathed.
Creative Approach
I started by cutting everything that didn’t move the heart.
Every line had to earn its place.
I watched each interview like a performance.
Twelve voices became one arc.
Not every voice was included.
I shifted a key statement from Vertex’s CEO to the opening. It reframed the entire journey.
Five frames here. Ten there.
Tiny moves that gave the audience room to feel before they moved on.
Music was chosen with restraint. It guided emotion quietly. Discovery. Pain. Hope. Breakthrough.
Everything pointed toward one moment.
Outcome
When the second cut delivered, Anthem didn’t ask for changes.
The story finally connected. The emotion finally landed.
It became the flagship film of Vertex’s cystic fibrosis campaign.
